SUMMARY:Level Up: Changing the Narrative through Social Media with Marz Lovejoy
DESCRIPTION:About Workshop Presenter\nMarz Lovejoy was born in Minneapolis\, Minnesota\, raised in San Diego and Santa Monica\, California\, and became the woman she is now after many years of grinding in New York. She now lives between The US and Europe with her three children. Marz helped shaped Office Magazine\, is founder and Editor in Chief of The Black Utopia\, and has recently signed on to be Curator-at-Large for Alvaro Barrington’s new art studio in London. However\, various forms of art and entertainment have been Marz’s primary inspiration as well as the backdrop of her career. From professional modeling and acting\, writing and producing music\, and creating published works in the literary field\, Marz continues to evolve in creativity while centering on community and social responsibility. \nHer latest projects include Her annual “…And Still We Ride…” bike ride out\, celebrating Black women. The live streaming of her son’s birth raised awareness and funds for Black Maternal Health organizations. She has contracted with major brands to be featured in advertising campaigns\, where a portion of the profits was donated to nonprofits of Marz’s choice. \nWith a far-reaching audience and a lens for equity\, justice\, and focus on the Black plight\, Marz’s message that “Small Acts Matter” packs a profound ripple effect that can be measured by the success of her campaigns.

SUMMARY:Level Up Workshop
DESCRIPTION:An affordable professional development series for artists\, organizers\, and community leaders.\nZooming In: Making Our Values Real Through Both Art And Action on March 14th: The first installment of the Level Up series will explore one of the most pressing questions artists face today: what are our roles and responsibilities in times of great crisis\, uncertainty\, and transition? How can our art support movement-building work… and do we have more to offer beyond that art? Through shining a light on historical examples of how artists have answered these questions and uplifting some present-day and local examples\, we’ll attempt to “zoom in” from these big questions down to some specific actions we can take and practices we can cultivate. \nGeneral Program Overview\nLevel Up is a more accessible space for you to continue your development and education as a professional and/or practitioner in your respective area of interest\, at an affordable price. \nFacilitated by artists\, arts leaders\, and professionals from within the TruArtSpeaks network\, there will be a new lead facilitator and topic each session\, so please visit the website for the full schedule and come as you need/desire. If you are an artist\, organizer\, or anything in between and are looking to gain skills in grant writing\, lesson planning\, using social media to shift the narrative about your community\, or if you are seeking to learn best practices as a community organizer or more— this space is for you. \nRegister for your slot. SUMMARY:Sunday Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Dinner is a quarterly cultural gathering space for Black Minnesotans to convene\, break bread\, dialogue and build collective power through the ritual of Sunday Dinners. This joy centered and multifaceted event will offers meal subsidy and delivery (while supplies last)\, music\, breakout rooms for small group conversations\, performances and more. \nThe start of this decade has rendered us somehwat unable to connect with our broader community- Sunday Dinner is designed to bridge that gap and make space for continued connection with our loved ones. Be prepared to show your face\, prepare and show your meal (unless opting for food delivery\, in that event you would just showcase your meal) and to listen\, laugh\, learn and lend ideas alongside other members of the Black community in Minnesota. \nThis iteration of Sunday Dinner is powered by TruArtSpeaks in partnership with the Healing Justice Foundation and Time of Reckoning and presents a unique opportunity for us to take some of our kitchen table talk back to elected officials and policy makers so that they can make change on behalf of our community and what we desire. If you would like to lend your voice\, you can opt into a breakout room with the intention of doing so. If not\, you can hang back in the main room for guided community conversation and music and more. \nSounds by DJ Digie
